Systemic cancer treatment delivered with modern infrastructure and compassionate care. Our Medical Oncology department offers chemotherapy, targeted therapy and hormone therapy in a state-of-the-art day care centre — with safe protocols, expert monitoring and charitable, affordable pricing.
Chemotherapy is a systemic cancer treatment that uses specialised anti-cancer drugs to destroy or inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Unlike surgery or radiation therapy, which target a specific area, chemotherapy works throughout the body and can treat cancer cells wherever they may be present.
It may be given alone or in combination with surgery, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy or hormone therapy — depending on the type and stage of cancer.
At SHB-MDH, our Medical Oncology team delivers advanced, affordable and patient-centred cancer care, with the goal of improving outcomes and enhancing quality of life.
In certain cancers, chemotherapy can achieve complete cure — particularly Lymphomas, Leukemias, Germ Cell Tumours and selected paediatric cancers.
Given after surgery or radiation to eliminate microscopic cancer cells that may remain, reducing the risk of recurrence.
Given before surgery or radiation to shrink tumours, making them easier to remove or treat effectively.
For advanced-stage cancers, helps control disease progression, relieve symptoms, improve quality of life and prolong survival.
Depending on the cancer, one drug (single-agent) or multiple drugs (combination) may be used for the best possible outcome.
Every plan is coordinated with our surgical and radiation oncology teams for a complete, individualised strategy.
Targeted therapy is an advanced form of cancer treatment that specifically targets the molecular abnormalities responsible for cancer growth. These treatments are designed to selectively attack cancer cells while minimising damage to normal tissues.
Hormone therapy is used for cancers that depend on hormones for growth, particularly breast cancer and prostate cancer.
In hormone receptor-positive breast cancers (ER/PR positive), hormone therapy can significantly reduce the risk of recurrence and improve long-term survival.
While chemotherapy targets rapidly growing cancer cells, it may also affect some normal cells, causing temporary side effects. These vary by drug, dosage and individual. Most are temporary and can be effectively prevented or managed with supportive care.
You are closely monitored throughout. Our oncology team tracks every patient and provides personalised guidance to prevent and manage side effects, ensuring maximum comfort and safety during treatment.

Surgery and radiation target a specific area of the body. Chemotherapy is systemic — it travels through the whole body via the bloodstream and can reach cancer cells wherever they are. This makes it valuable for cancers that have spread, or to eliminate microscopic cells that imaging can\u2019t see.
Not necessarily. Side effects vary greatly by drug, dose and individual — and many are mild or manageable. Most are temporary and can be effectively prevented or controlled with supportive care. Our team monitors you closely and gives personalised guidance to keep you comfortable and safe.
Targeted therapy attacks the specific molecular abnormalities driving a cancer, sparing more normal tissue. It often has fewer side effects than conventional chemotherapy, and many targeted drugs are available in oral form. It isn\u2019t suitable for every cancer — your oncologist advises whether it applies to your specific case.
Most chemotherapy is given in our dedicated Chemotherapy Day Care Centre, with comfortable treatment bays and continuous monitoring — you usually go home the same day. Drugs are prepared safely in a dedicated cytotoxic admixture room using international-standard bio-safety cabinets, and administered by trained oncology nurses.
It depends on the cancer type and stage. In some cancers — such as lymphomas, leukemias and germ cell tumours — chemotherapy can achieve complete cure. In others it is used after surgery to prevent recurrence, before surgery to shrink tumours, or to control advanced disease and improve quality of life. Your oncologist explains the goal for your specific case.
As a charitable hospital, our medical oncology and chemotherapy rates are kept well below corporate hospitals. Patients under CGHS, ESI, PSU panels and government cancer schemes may receive cashless or subsidised treatment, and our support desk assesses every family for additional charitable funding.
Book a medical oncology consultation. Bring your reports — our team will review your case and explain your treatment options and subsidy eligibility.
