ABOUT OUR OT COMPLEX

Surgery in the Safest Environment

The Operation Theatre complex at SHB-MDH is built to modern modular standards — seamless antibacterial wall panels, laminar air flow systems that bathe the surgical field in ultra-clean air, and HEPA filtration that removes 99.97% of airborne particles.

Our theatres are zoned into sterile, clean and protective areas with strict movement protocols. Every instrument passes through our Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) with documented sterilisation cycles. These measures directly translate into lower infection rates and safer surgery for every patient.

A dedicated emergency OT remains ready round the clock — for accident victims, emergency caesareans, and any surgery that cannot wait for morning.

Surgery & OT FAQs

A modular OT is a sealed, prefabricated theatre with seamless antibacterial surfaces, laminar air flow and HEPA filtration that keeps the air around the surgical field ultra-clean. For you, this means a significantly lower risk of surgical site infection and safer healing.

The PAC lets the anaesthetist assess your fitness for anaesthesia — reviewing your heart, lungs, sugar levels, medications and allergies. It allows them to choose the safest anaesthesia plan for you and address any risks before you reach the OT. It is mandatory for every planned surgery.

An empty stomach prevents stomach contents from entering the lungs while under anaesthesia — a rare but serious complication. Typically you must not eat for 6–8 hours before surgery; the team will give your exact timing. Follow it strictly — surgery may be postponed if you don\u2019t.

No — OT entry is restricted to the sterile surgical team to protect you from infection. Your family waits in the designated waiting area, and the surgeon meets them right after the procedure to explain how it went.

We provide a written package estimate after your surgical consultation — covering surgeon fees, OT charges, anaesthesia, implants if any, and expected stay. Our support desk simultaneously checks your scheme eligibility (CGHS/ESI/PSU/government schemes) and charitable subsidy options.

Yes, our surgeons routinely perform laparoscopic procedures for gallbladder, hernia, appendix and selected gynaec surgeries. Keyhole surgery means smaller cuts, less pain, and faster recovery — but it isn\u2019t suitable for every case. Your surgeon will recommend the right approach for your specific condition.
